The BUR-1008 torch is used during installation of closures on telecommunication and electrical cables, for soldering at melting point up to 700 °C and for heat-shrinking materials. Propane-butane is used as combustible gas.
The burner consists of a handle with the control valve to adjust the gas flow and a nozzle screwed onto it.
The gas is fed through the nipple to the control valve and then to the nozzle. The air is injected from the atmosphere to create a combustible mixture through the nozzle side openings. The combustible mixture composition is controlled by the air shutter. By pressing the protruding ends of the spring with fingers, it can be moved along the nozzle axis overlapping the side holes and thereby changing the injected air volume.
During the soldering process, the operating temperature (approx. 900 °C) is reached when the side holes of the nozzle are open.
In this mode, the central operating part of the flare ("needle") is 65-70 mm long from the nozzle outlet, while the stabilizing part of the flare ("crown") is about 1 mm. This kind of flare provides local, spot heating.
The flame temperature must be reduced to work with heat-shrinkable materials.
This requires partial or complete blocking of the nozzle side holes by moving the spring flap to make the flare "softer" and ensure it has the optimum temperature and shape for shrinking.
In this mode, the flare length at maximum mode is about 150 mm.
