The compensation coil is used to stabilize the mode structure of the emission introduced into the measured line and to eliminate the impact of the OTDR near end dead zone on the measurement results.
The quality of fibers and splices must be checked with an OTDR when installing the network. The OTDR analyzes optical pulses reflected from irregularities. As the reflected light is limited, the OTDR receiver must be very sensitive. Based on the above, powerful reflected pulses of light will saturate or overload the receiver. After saturation, it takes some time for the receiver to recover, and as long as this lasts, the meter value is uncertain. The reflection overloads the optical receiver for the period of time equal to the distance the light pulse covers. This distance is called the blind zone. For this reason, it is recommended to use a device called a blind spot compensator when operating an OTDR. The compensator gives the OTDR time to recover.
The compensation coil helps to evaluate the condition of the near end line terminating connector and reduces the risk of damage to the optical connector in OTDR.
The fiber (SM) is enclosed in a sealed compartment protected from external exposures including moisture. The coils are terminated with FC connectors based on 3 mm micro cable for connections to a device and fiber optic line. These connectors are placed in special seats for transportation. The coil body is designed as a durable minicase made of composite materials. There are openings for connectors, which significantly reduces space required for work.
