The new line of Yokogawa AQ7280 OTDRs has been created specifically to meet growing needs of the Russian telecommunications market. The Yokogawa AQ7280 OTDR is a reliable and easy-to-use field test device to perform measurements during installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks. The Yokogawa AQ7280 covers a broad spectrum of applications in testing and certifying fiber optic lines: from access networks to trunk lines.
The outstanding reliability of the Yokogawa AQ7280 OTDR is ensured by its shock-, dust- and moisture-proof body along with the smooth software protected from viruses. The new OTDR is extremely easy to control with the touch screen or with alternative hard-key buttons. First time for this type of OTDR, it is equipped with a capacitive touch screen similar to a tablet one. It helps to easily zoom in the desired trace area with just a finger swipe. The hard-key button control interface is completely similar to the interface of the previous model Yokogawa AQ7275. It is convenient to use when working in gloves or in sub-zero temperatures. The unit is ready for operation 8 seconds after start-up and is highly responsive due to the high-speed hardware used.
The Yokogawa AQ7280 OTDR has a new modular platform to pick from nine OTDR modules, power meter units (PM) and emission sources (LS/SLS) including visible ones (VLS). The new rechargeable battery ensures superior operation time - 15 hours under the Telcordia standard conditions and 10 hours with the laser source continuously turned on. The use of a USB video probe makes it easier to check if the connectors are clean and helps to avoid possible wrong measurement results.
Specific hardware and advanced measurement analysis algorithms enable the Yokogawa AQ7280 OTDR to characterize Passive Optical Network (PON) through high-port-count splitters (up to 1×128). Short event dead zone and high sampling resolution enable users to detect near-end location of connectors that are as close as 0.5 meters. It can perform multiple operations at once instantly transferring data wirelessly. The filter application in some models helps to test light fibers in PON networks.
The multi-fiber measurement function has become even more convenient, as now not just the fiber trace, but also the attenuation measurement results along with the connector end-face image can be stored in the same cell. With the threshold values set, a PASS/FAIL judgment is automatically performed, and the cell is colored accordingly.
The OTDR unique feature is monitoring a fiber optic line based on user-defined measurement interval. With this function, intermittent faults and signal interruptions can be detected, for example, if the water freezes in the closure at night frost.
