The VOKS-F solution (fiber optic distribution system with front access to the patch field) is based on the specific telecommunication cabinet concept and consists of10'' and 19'' sections with 42U or 45U clear height.
The section for insertion of incoming and outgoing cables is arranged in the narrow 10'' section which also contains the area for storage of excess length of patch cords
The section for splicing and patching of fibers is arranged in the wide 19'' section, where the cross modules are installed. If required, the wide section can accommodate extra breakout modules and patch cord organizers.
Optical adapters installed on the front side of the cross module plate arrange the patching field.
Incoming and outgoing cables are prepared and secured in the VKR breakout modules (for more, see VKR Breakout Modules section). The metal members of cable construction are grounded there as well, if available. The VKR breakout modules have different design and structure depending on the cables they are intended for. VKR-1 are used with cables in light armor (corrugated steel tape), VKR-2 – with cables in wire or fiberglass armor, VKR-3 – with unarmored cables. The VKR-1, 2, 3 breakout modules are installed on 10'' or 19'' carrier plates. One panel can accommodate from 4 to 42 breakout modules, which depends on their configuration and carrier plate design.
From the breakout module, fibers in transition tubes are routed into the cross modules and spliced with pigtails. Optical adapters are installed on the front side of the cross module plate. For the convenience of fiber installation and maintenance, the cross module with the tray and adapter plate can be swiveled in open position (as appropriate to the design) and then extracted for access.
The cross module height is 0.5 U. The cross module nominal capacity is 24 fibers (for FC, SC) or 48 fibers (LC). 19'' cable blocks of 1U, 2U or 3U height incorporating 2, 4 or 6 cross modules, respectively, are used to install the modules in a rack or cabinet.
Specific front and side organizers are used for guiding and coiling the excess length of patch cords terminated to the cross modules’ ports.
