The MOPG-MP-1 closure in metal body is used for direct and branch splicing of factory lengths of fiber optic cable OPGW type (optical ground wire) of power transmission lines with ice melting capability. The ADSS (All Dielectric Self Supporting) fiber optic cables with the armor of aramid yarns or fiberglass rods used as the branching cables can also be inserted into the closure.
The closure body is completely made of metal. The closure body and head are sealed mechanically with a rubber O-ring gasket and four draw bolts that fasten the closure dome to its head.
Up to four fiber optic cables can be inserted into the closure. The specific cable entry kits installed in the holes on the closure head are used to ins ert and seal the cables in to the closure. The Ice Melting Ground Wire Entry Sealing Kit includes dielectric grommets insulating the closure body from the ground wire with dielectric strength up to 1,000 V. The cable entry kits are chosen depending on the cable design and diameter. Unused entry ports are plugged. The rubber O-ring gaskets are used to seal the places of installation of cable port and plugs. The kit includes two plugs with gaskets and fastening nuts. The cable entry kits are not included in the kit, but available for purchase upon request.
Different designs of the closure are supplied with various types of fiber splice tray. Up to four KU-3260 fiber splice trays with the splice inserts for KDZS-6030 fusion splice sleeves (length - 60 mm, diameter - 3 mm after shrinkage) can be installed in the MOPG-MP-1/128 Closure. The total capacity of this closure is 128 fiber optic joints. Up to six KT-3645 fiber splice trays with the splice inserts for KDZS-4525 fusion splice sleeves (length - 45 mm, diameter - 2.5 mm after shrinkage) can be installed in the MOPG-MP-1/216 Closure. The capacity of this closure is 216 fiber optic joints.
The specific brackets and rotating cable reels are used to install the closures on power transmission line towers and to accommodate the excess OPGW cable coil and branching ADSS dielectric cable. The rotating cable reels must be installed on insulation support metal structures to provide electrical insulation of ice melting OPGW cables.
The MOPG-MP Closures were tested under the applicable industry standards and procedures together with OPGW-C (central tube) and OPGW-S (steel buffer tube in the lay) cables and approved for operation on overhead power transmission lines of PJSC Rosseti.
